Teenagers and people in their 20's. I have an extremely important message for you.
I am 37 and I work in a zero credibilty, low paid job with no prospects of promotion.
When I was younger I studied foreign languages thinking that the new European Britain would need linguists and, well..... I don't even want to get started on how misguided a decision that was. I am doing this because I want you to know that I would give ANYTHING to be a teenager again. Not because I enjoyed going to nightclubs and failing to pull. Not because I liked not having no money. Not because I enjoyed being oversensitive and naive, but because I now know exactly what I would to do in order to make myself happy then and for the rest of my life - at least from a career and personal development perspective. This is what I would do:
Study and pass GCSE Physics, Maths, English and Chemistry.
Study and pass A levels in the same subjects.
Focus 100% on these objectives at all times!
Go to university and do a degree in something linked to engineering.
Find my social outlet, not by hanging around with disagreeable young urchins who think it's cool to be bitchy but by doing wholesome things like playing sports, hiking, etc.
Do everything I can to nuture and develop my mind, attitude and approach to life generally, with the objective of becoming a responsible adult as soon as possible and leaving the hormonal imbalances of youth behind me forever.
Never worry about being popular. Never try to please other people. Never try to be liked by being overfriendly. Such people just end up being walked all over. I would be affable and pleasant but without comprimising when I thought I was right and I definitely would not allow others to dictate what I did with my life. Your education is important but if you are to succeed in business you have to develop a strong and balanced personality. Polite but firm. Nice but not a pushover.
You have heard it a million times before but you really must know.. you can do ANYTHING and please believe me, there is nothing worse than getting to my age and knowing that you could have done anything when it's already too late.
