Methane emissions by ruminants is one of the many factors contributing to global warming and climate change. Every day, cows produce over 500 billion litres of methane gas, responsible for 20% of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. The Mootral project aims to reduce emissions by up to 94% with the use of a simple garlic extract. Its business model also allows carbon emitters such as airlines to buy into the scheme, by offsetting their emissions via carbon credits. Mootral improves the overall efficiency of livestock production, whilst also potentially benefiting the animal's health.
